Delete your account yourself

You can delete your account at any time, provided all your outstanding orders have been completed or cancelled:

• In the Android app: go to Account → Account → Delete Account and confirm.
• On this website: sign in, open Your Account, and choose Delete Account.

Deletion takes effect immediately.

Can't sign in? Request deletion by email

If you no longer have access to the app or your login, email support@thepaperbacksociety.co.za from the email address linked to your account, with the subject “Account deletion request”. We will verify the request, delete the account within 30 days, and confirm by reply.

What is deleted, and what is kept

When your account is deleted, your personal information — name, phone number, address, avatar, shop details, preferences, wishlist, reading list, and unread notifications — is anonymised or removed immediately, and your active listings are taken off the marketplace.

South African law requires us to keep some records for a fixed period, shown under the name “Deleted User” rather than your name, after which they are permanently purged:

• Order and payment records — 5 years (SARS tax retention).
• KYC verification documents, where applicable — 5 years from account deletion (FICA section 24).
• Messages and reviews remain visible to the other party as “Deleted User”, since they may need to refer back to them (for example in a dispute).
